Global macro hedge fund manager
Paul Tudor Jones
Paul Tudor Jones II (born 1954, Memphis, Tennessee) founded Tudor Investment Corporation in 1980 and is known for profiting from the October 1987 crash. He co-founded the Robin Hood Foundation, a New York anti-poverty charity, in 1988, and was one of the traders interviewed in Jack Schwager's Market Wizards (1989).
What they argue
- The 200-day moving average of closing prices is the single metric he applies to everything he looks at; when something falls below it, he gets out and plays defense.
- The central problem in investing is avoiding catastrophic loss, so capital preservation comes before return.
- He looks for trades with roughly five times as much upside as downside, so that he can be wrong most of the time and still make money.
