Co-creators of the Vortex Indicator
Etienne Botes & Douglas Siepman
Etienne Botes and Douglas Siepman introduced the Vortex Indicator in the January 2010 issue of Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities. They based it on J. Welles Wilder's directional movement concept and on Viktor Schauberger's studies of vortex flows in water. Little else about the authors is publicly documented.
What they argue
- Upward and downward 'vortex movement' (each bar's high against the prior low, and each low against the prior high) can be compared to show which side controls the trend.
- When the positive and negative lines cross, the trend is changing, and the wider they spread, the stronger the trend.
