Trader-educator; founder of Profitunity
Bill Williams
Bill Williams (born 1932) was an American trader, educator and commodity trading advisor who founded Profitunity, a trading-education business. His books apply ideas from chaos theory and trading psychology to markets, and he created several widely used indicators, including the Alligator, Fractals and the Awesome Oscillator.
What they argue
- Traders do not trade the market so much as their own belief system, so self-understanding matters more than forecasting.
- Markets trend only a minority of the time (he put it at roughly 15–30%), so a trader should stay out while the market is directionless and act when a trend emerges.
- Market behaviour is better described by chaos theory and fractal structure than by linear forecasting.
