Japanese journalist; creator of Ichimoku charts
Goichi Hosoda
Goichi Hosoda was a Japanese newspaper journalist who wrote under the pen name Ichimoku Sanjin and developed the Ichimoku Kinko Hyo ('equilibrium chart at a glance') method from the late 1930s. He refined it for about three decades, reportedly using students to run the calculations, and released it publicly in book form in the late 1960s.
What they argue
- A single chart of mid-points of recent highs and lows, projected forward and back in time, can show trend, momentum and support or resistance at a glance.
- Its standard 9/26/52 periods were tied to the Japanese trading calendar of the time (about a week and a half, a month, and two months of trading days).
