Economist; founder of Trendex Research
Edwin S. C. Coppock
Edwin Sedgwick 'Sedge' Coppock was an American economist and founder of Trendex Research in San Antonio, Texas. He designed the Coppock Curve (originally the 'Trendex Model') to spot long-term buying opportunities in broad US stock indices after major declines, and published it in Barron's.
What they argue
- Recovering from a market decline is like recovering from a bereavement; he reportedly took the 11- and 14-month look-back periods from Episcopal bishops' estimate of how long mourning normally lasts.
- The indicator is for finding major long-term buy points in broad indices after bear markets, not for selling or short-term trading.
