An in call is right when the price rose before the next call; an out call is right when it fell. The latest 12 of 1076 calls shown.

How the play works

  1. Take the midpoint of each day's high and low, place it in its 10-day range on a −1 to +1 scale, smooth it, and apply the Fisher transform, which stretches values near the edges.
  2. In when the Fisher line crosses above its trigger, which is yesterday's Fisher value.
  3. Out when it crosses below.

Ehlers plots the line and its one-day-old copy as a crossover system for turning points but gives no formal entry or exit. Buying the up-cross and selling the down-cross is Be The Puck's reading.

As in his code, the scaled value is capped at ±0.999 and the smoothing starts from zero.

Where the rules come from

The case against

Valeriy Zakamulin tested moving-average timing on up to 155 years of U.S. stock data and found no statistically significant edge in the second half of that record. The rules earned their keep in a few severe bear markets and lagged buy and hold for long stretches in between.
