Founder of Vanguard
John C. Bogle
Founded Vanguard in 1975 and launched the first index mutual fund for individual investors the following year. He argued that most investors do better by owning the market cheaply and staying put than by trying to time it.
What they argue
- Costs and bad timing are the two biggest drags on investor returns.
- Buy the whole market, keep fees low and hold it.
