Track 1 · Lesson 7 · 6 min
A ten-minute check on any stock
Business, price, growth, debt, trend and crash risk in order, run live on any covered stock.
You now have the pieces: what a company is, how its price is set, how to read its chart and trend, what it's worth and whether it can survive a bad year. This lesson puts them in order as a ten-minute check you can run on any stock before buying.
- The business. What does it sell, and how big is it?
- The price. P/E, forward P/E or price to sales, next to growth.
- The engine. Is revenue growing? Is it profitable?
- The cushion. Debt, interest cover and cash.
- The trend. Above or below its 200-day average? How many plays are in?
- The storm test. Its crash exposure.
- Other opinions. Analyst targets, held lightly.
- Your plan. Size, exit and what would change your mind.

Checkpoint
A stock has a P/E of 12, falling sales, debt at 4× equity and most trend plays out. What's the most useful conclusion?
Cheap valuations often come with real problems. The other checks tell you whether the low price is an opportunity or a trap.
The plan matters most. Decide how much you'll put in, where you'd sell if you're wrong, and what would make you sell if you're right, before you buy. Every stock page lists the price at which each play would get out, which is one ready-made exit. The next lesson turns that exit into a position size. And when you're ready, put your own list in the watchlist.
